The Family Literacy Day initiative was started by ABC Life Literacy Canada in 1999 "to raise awareness about the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family." This year marked the 25^th year of Family Literacy Day!

To celebrate Family Literacy Day at KELSET, we invited families to read with their children.  We opened up spaces throughout our school for students to read together with family members and buddy classes.  Families brought lights into the gym for an opportunity for cozy reading with flashlights.  It was wonderful to see all the families and children reading together.
